Cracking Windows Passwords using Rainbow Tables

23. January 2010 Uncategorized 1

I recently had a scenario where i was given a Windows machine that i needed to log into. The only problem is that i was not given the Username & Password’s in order to log onto it. Formatting it was not an option as i needed the data on the Laptop… and didn’t have the energy to take out the Hard Disk and get the information by hooking it up to a second machine.

In comes Ophcrack. This software gives you two options, either download to the local machine, in order to retrieve passwords, or by far the easiest option. Create a bootable CD/USB Pen…..

The easiest option is to create a bootable Linux CD or USB pen drive – then it is a case of inserting the disk, rebooting the machine and booting from your medium. The Software then displays all the username & Passwords that it has retrieved from the registry.

…. I have used this software, and it works like a charm

Note:- I have mentioned this software as a form of Password recovery and testing system security. On no occasion do I condone the use of any software in order to gain un-authorized access – illegal entry into a system
